€8 million investment in frozen logistics infrastructure in Marijampolė

Logistics, warehousing and real estate rental company ICECO Assets, owned by UAB ICECO Holding, has completed the construction of an €8 million frozen food logistics centre in the Marijampolė district near the Polish border. The new facility, covering more than 4,000 sq m, will strengthen the company’s supply chain and enable it to provide temperature-controlled storage services to other companies in the food industry.

The project was completed in just 10 months. The facility includes more than 6,700 pallet spaces and is designed for storing food products at sub-zero temperatures. Automated management systems installed in the warehouse enable efficient temperature control, optimisation of storage processes and improved operational efficiency.

In Lithuania, ICECO Holding is known as the owner of the fish product brands “Zigmas” and “Junga”, as well as the ice cream brand “Aurum”. Until now, the company outsourced part of its frozen product storage to external partners. The new logistics centre will allow ICECO to centralise operations and manage product flows more efficiently.

“This project is not only an important strategic step for us in establishing our own cold storage facility, ensuring stable company growth and opening up new market opportunities, but also an additional opportunity to offer high-quality storage services to external clients,” said Paulius Genevičius, Head of Logistics at ICECO Assets.

Strategic location supports exports

The logistics centre is located in the Marijampolė district, close to the Lithuanian–Polish border—one of the key transport corridors between the Baltic States and Western Europe. According to the company, this location is particularly attractive for businesses involved in the export and import of frozen food products.

ICECO expects the new facility to become not only an integral part of its internal logistics infrastructure but also an attractive solution for other food industry companies seeking reliable frozen storage services in the region.

“We see growing demand for sub-zero temperature storage both in Lithuania and in neighbouring markets, so we invite companies to take advantage of the infrastructure of this new logistics centre,” said Mr Genevičius.

Investment contributes to sustainability

The company also highlights the sustainability benefits of the project. Having a large-capacity frozen storage facility on the company’s own premises reduces the need to transport products to external warehouses, which in turn lowers the number of heavy-duty transport trips.

According to ICECO’s calculations, this helps avoid an average of around 6.9 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per month. Company representatives note that sustainability indicators are becoming an increasingly important part of modern business practices, reflecting not only a company’s commitment to environmental protection but also its ability to adapt to new market standards and strengthen its competitiveness.

Boost for the regional economy

The new logistics centre is also expected to contribute to the economic development of the Marijampolė region, from the creation of new jobs to increased investment attractiveness.

Industry experts note that investments in frozen logistics infrastructure in Lithuania have been growing in recent years. This trend is driven by the expansion of the frozen food trade, stricter food safety requirements and the need for more resilient supply chains. The ICECO Assets project demonstrates that such investments are increasingly being directed not only to major cities but also to regional areas across the country.
